AT&T has created more than 1,100 new Florida jobs in 2014, over and above the 2,000 jobs already filled.

In a statement released today, the communications giant also announced hiring more than 26,000 people during the same period.

Of nearly 300 openings currently available in the state, more than 250 of those are for call centers, retail and technical support and the like – all newly created.

Spurring AT&T’s latest expansion is its ongoing investment in high-speed internet – to meet increasing consumer demands for online services and video.

“As we’ve continued to invest in our network and expand our customer base in Florida, we’ve also remained committed to providing excellent customer service,” said AT&T Florida President Joe York. “From connected cars to a connected home, and from wearable technology to mobile Internet, these are exciting times for us. In turn, we’re looking for employees who can build on that excitement and provide the services our customers expect and deserve.

With more than 15,000 employees in Florida, AT&T announced last month an expansion of AT&T U-verse wireless and wired Internet Protocol (IP) broadband networks to nearly 3,000 additional locations in the Fort Lauderdale-Miami area. Nearly 700 of those new locations in Miami and about 500 new locations in Fort Lauderdale.

AT&T U-verse services include High Speed Internet, AT&T U-verse TV and AT&T U-verse Voice.
