Janet Long nearly tops $17,000 for re-election campaign

Since filing to run for re-election in early May, Pinellas County Commissioner Janet Long has raised exactly $16,808 in campaign contributions. That’s according to the last three months of published campaign finance reports on the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections’ website. Long, a 70 year-old Democrat from Seminole, has received nearly 50 total checks so far, including five for $1,000 — the maximum allowable individual contribution amount. So far, no other candidate for Pinellas County’s elected office has raised more money for their 2016 campaign than former state Rep. Jim Frishe. The 66 year-old Republican has raised approximately $20,065 since officially filing to run for the county’s Property Appraiser position back in April. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office has run into some unexpected funding for its federal prisoner housing — $542,080, appropriated from the U.S. Marshals Service. After five years of polishing, Pinellas County’s new Countywide Plan (CWP) has finally become a reality.
