House elections bill tightens filing fee requirements, poll closing hours

HB 1325, filed by Palm Coast Republican Rep. Paul Renner, would modify a number of regulations currently in place relative to Florida elections. One change would affect the payment of a filing fee, requiring a money order or cashier’s check drawn from funds contained within the campaign account. Poll: Floridians back transgender bathrooms, oppose ‘travel ban’ from Muslim countries

A poll released Monday by the University of North Florida shows that more Florida voters favor transgender bathroom rights than President Donald Trump‘s controversial “travel ban” from seven majority-Muslim countries. The UNF poll shows that 62 percent of registered Florida voters would have no issue using the same bathroom as a transgender person; 47 percent of those surveyed strongly disagreed with the idea of being uncomfortable using the same bathroom as a transgender person. Poll: Rick Scott more popular than Florida Legislature

As Florida Gov. Rick Scott steels himself for a Session showdown with the GOP-controlled Florida Legislature, he got some good news from a new poll. A University of North Florida survey shows that, among registered voters in Florida, Scott is more popular than the legislative branch. 46 percent of those surveyed approve of Scott, with 40 percent disapproving. On Friday, Florida State Sen. Rob Bradley filed a bill to repeal the state’s controversial Certificate of Need program. And Gov. Rick Scott supports the measure. Senate Bill 676 would eliminate the Certificate of Need (CON) Program at the Agency for Health Care Administration. Florida House Bill 615, filed by Rep. Paul Renner of Palm Coast, would make transfers to Florida a bit easier for military families. Also known as the “Occupational Opportunity Act,” HB 615 would compel Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation to license military members, spouses, and surviving spouses in occupations they have licenses for in other states. Competitive Workforce Act filed once again in Legislature

On Thursday, the Florida Competitive Workforce Act was filed again in the Florida Legislature, this time by Rep. Ben Diamond and Rep. Rene Plascenia on the House side, and Sen. Jeff Clemens in the Senate.
