Florida Office of Insurance Regulation says flood rates in Florida may be unfair

The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation has responded to state Sen. Jeff Brandes’ request to study the methods used to determine National Flood Insurance Program policy rates. The office agrees that with the limited information available to regulators, the rates may be “unfairly discriminatory.” According to a letter from OIR commissioner Kevin McCarty, his NFIP experience suggests the flood loss ratio from 1978 until 2012 was just 28.3 percent. “This is not an alarming loss ratio, and does not seem to…

St. Pete officials say curbside recycling is exceeding expectations, looks to add more flexibility

St. Pete Mayor Rick Kriseman is updating residents on the contentious rollout of universal curbside recycling in his weekly SUNblast newsletter sent to subscribing residents. Kriseman said the numbers show participation rates are exceeding early expectations. An inquiry into those numbers was not immediately answered. CareerSource Florida booming for second year in a row

CareerSource Florida provided training and employment services to a record number of businesses for the second year in a row. In a statement, Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced nearly 125,000 businesses received employee services between July 1, 2014, and June 30, 2015. That represents a 23 percent increase over the previous year.
