in Statewide/Top Headlines by

[Editor’s note: This story was updated at 5 p.m. to include comments from Gary Rutledge.] The results of the first-ever audits of lobbyists’ compensation forms are in, with auditors finding a number of firms either under-reporting or over-reporting the money they made in 2014. In another case, auditors couldn’t tell who had paid a particular bill. The reports were released by the Joint Legislative Auditing Committee on Thursday morning. It was the first time under a 2005 state law that lobbying firms were subject to…

Veteran PR guru Lisa Brock soon will be applying her talents to a tough challenge: Florida A&M University. Brock, reached on vacation, told FloridaPolitics.com on Tuesday that she had signed an agreement last week to do public-relations consulting for the university’s Board of Trustees. Her goal: To hone the board’s understanding of “messaging,” as she put it. The contract is worth up to $75,000, records show. FAMU, Florida’s only state-controlled historically black university, has long had a reputation among reporters for being distant with media, circling the wagons when bad…

Steve Crisafulli won’t agree to another redistricting special session

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

House Speaker Steve Crisafulli says his chamber won’t back down from their version of a redrawn congressional map and thus won’t agree to convene another special session. In a memo to members on Tuesday, Crisafulli – a Merritt Island Republican – did say he’d be OK with the Florida Senate coming back and approving the House map. The two-page letter pretty much puts to bed any hope of another special session for both chambers to agree on a new map for Florida’s 27 congressional districts.…

The bill was filed by state Rep. Jose Felix Diaz, the Miami Republican who chairs…
