An effort to stop administrative hearings underway over a Gretna race track’s ability to offer barrel racing failed on Tuesday, reports the News Service of Florida. Attorneys for the Florida Quarter Horse Track Association, which supports allowing barrel racing at a new Gretna-based race track, asked a Leon County Circuit Court Judge to issue a “stay” over administrative proceedings over a dispute involving two quarter horse groups. Thirty nine Florida counties, (58 percent) experienced statistically significant increases in poverty rates for school-aged children between 2007 and 2010, the U.S. Census Bureau reported Tuesday as part of a national snapshot on economic well being that indicated that nearly one in five U.S. school children live below the poverty line via The News Service of Florida.
