Former Florida GOP chair Jim Greer was arrested Wednesday, but the statewide grand jury that charged him handed up its indictment two weeks earlier, according to court records.
The delay was so the Florida Department of Law Enforcement could arrest Greer the same day it searched his Oviedo home, its press office said Thursday, to make sure he didn’t destroy evidence.
To do that, it had to prepare search warrant affidavits for Florida Chief Justice Peggy Quince. She signed three search warrants Tuesday, one for Greer’s home and one each for two Longwood banks.
The next morning, state agents appeared at Greer’s home with the search warrant and an arrest warrant.
