U.S. Rep. Allen West said Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann made “an incredible faux pas,” when she suggested over the weekend that drilling for gas or oil in the Everglades might be worth considering if it can be done without environmental damage, reports the News Service of Florida. “When I see her next week, I’ll straighten her out about that,” West said, according to the Palm Beach Post. West was speaking to to a town hall audience in Palm Beach Gardens. West told the Post after the meeting that Bachmann’s bringing up the issue of new energy exploration in the Everglades was “a horrible thing to say. The Everglades is one of the natural wonders of the world. . . . That’s an incredible ecosystem and it’s a wetland that is natural and pristine and that’s something we have to preserve for our future generations.”
