Barack Obama postpones Miami Gardens campaign event because of Hurricane Matthew

President Barack Obama won’t be visiting Florida this week.

The Hillary Clinton campaign announced it was postponing a campaign stop in Miami Gardens scheduled for Wednesday because of Hurricane Matthew. The event was scheduled to take place at Florida Memorial University, and Obama was expected to rally supporters and encourage Floridians to register to vote.

The cancellation comes at a critical point in the campaign. Clinton holds a slim margin over Donald Trump in Florida. A recent Quinnipiac University Poll showed Clinton leads Trump in Florida, 46 percent to 41 percent. That’s just outside the poll’s margin of error, which was 4.2 percent.

“Although Hillary Clinton clearly won the first debate with Donald Trump, this victory did her only little good in her race for the White House,” said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac poll, in a statement Monday. “Likely voters in Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, the four largest and most important swing states, seem little closer to an Election Day decision.”

Trump did not have any events is Florida this week, according to his schedule.
