Batman 3 to begin production in April 2011

For the past several months any time Christopher Nolan was pressed for details on the follow-up to The Dark Knight or a progress report on the Batman sequel, the filmmaker would politely decline and emphasize his focus was on finishing and releasing Inception.

With his mind-bending dream thriller in theaters this week, Nolan’s attention (along with everyone else’s) shifts to Gotham City and the end of his dark caped crusader trilogy.

His brother, Jonathan Nolan, is writing the script and Warner Bros has already set a release date for July 20, 2012, which means Chris Nolan turns to a project already underway and a ticking clock looming overhead.

In an interview with Michael Caine, DigitalSpy learned Nolan is eying an April 2011 date to start filming the third Batman movie, which may or may not involve the Riddler if rumors are to be believed.  Entertainment Weekly confirmed the start date, and added that Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and, of course, Caine are all attached as expected.

Meanwhile, a flurry of Internet domain name purchases is creating headlines, like the one ati09.  They spotted a slew of new .coms that could be tied to the movie, but are most likely protecting the potential names for Arkham Asylum 2, a sequel to the popular video game.

Here they are.  What do you think of the possible titles?
