Ben Carson hasn’t been all that impressive in the first GOP presidential debates, but they’ve helped him tremendously with the Republican primary electorate.
For Wednesday’s third debate, this time in Boulder, Colorado, Carson will face a whole new set of pressures: as the front-runner nationally, at least according to a CBS-New York Times survey released on Tuesday.
Carson has had a solid core of supporters in the Tampa Bay area all year long, and some of them will be getting together Wednesday night to support their man during the debate at Gator’s Dockside. That’s at 5840 E. Fowler Ave. in what is officially Tampa, but is often thought to be in Temple Terrace.
Interestingly, the invitation was sent out via Win Ben Win!, his Super PAC.
Donald Trump, the other surprise outside dominating the GOP polls this year, has bashed Carson for relying too closely to that Super PAC.
“Who know what PACs are? It’s a crooked business. It’s a bad business,” Trump said in a speech in Jacksonville on Saturday. “They call them super-duper PACS. And they put up millions and millions of dollars in these PACs. And those PACs control the candidates, OK? They totally control — Carson is controlled by his PAC.”
The debate begins at 8 p.m. Wednesday, but the meet and greet starts at 7 p.m.
