Bill Young II nabbed another key GOP endorsement as former Gov. Jeb Bush announced his support of the first-time candidate in Florida House District 68.
Young — son of former U.S. Rep C.W. Bill Young — faces Democrat Rep. Dwight Dudley for the seat covering parts of Pinellas County, Pinellas Park and St. Petersburg.
Bush, a prospective 2016 Republican presidential candidate, served two terms as Florida Governor. During his time in office, Bush is credited with transforming the state’s education system, fostering economic growth and building budget reserves.
“I am supporting my friend Bill Young and his campaign to represent Pinellas County in the House of Representatives,” Bush said in a statement. “To ensure Florida remains the best place to live, work, raise a family or retire, we must continue to do whatever we can to promote job creation, keep our taxes low, and never lose our focus on building a better Florida.
“Strong, principled leaders like Bill Young are the key to keeping Florida on the right track.”
Young responded that he was proud to receive Bush’s backing.
“I share his vision to provide world class education in our schools and I look forward to helping build a better Florida,” he said.
