After a group of community leaders from Polk County sent a letter to the State University System Board of Governors pleading the case for the University of South Florida Polytechnic campus to become its own university, Chair Ava Parker invited representatives from USF to make their pitch at a September Board of Governors meeting, according to the News Service of Florida. “The USF Polytechnic campus has matured and grown into an institution that plays an important role in addressing student demand for access to degree programs,” Parker wrote in a letter to USF President Judy Genshaft. “As such, I ask that a representative be sent to make a presentation to the Board of Governors regarding the potential future of the USF Polytechnic campus within the State University System.” There will be no action taken at the meeting, and Parker reminded Genshaft that the university system has been undergoing a strategic planning process in order to determine whether there is need for expansion of the state university system, which is home to 11 universities.
