Busy week for the Florida Press Association as it puts press center building up for sale

It’s been a busy week so far for the Florida Press Association.

Yesterday it announced that it would be co-hosting a televised debate as part of next year’s gubernatorial race. Although no date, format, moderator, or venue has been established for this debate, there’s no doubting the FPA’s enthusiasm.

While it remains to be seen whether the FPA can cobble together a debate between one candidate (Rick Scott) who avoids the press like the plague and another likely candidate (Charlie Crist) who never met an appointment he was willing to reschedule, Dean Ridings and Co. are also attempting to sell the Florida Press Center.

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, the downtown office that houses capital bureaus for news organizations around the state is up for sale.

The Florida Press Center, a 14,607 square-foot building located at 336 E. College Ave., has been on the market for almost a week, public listings show.

The news organizations who own the building are asking $1.75 million for the property, which last sold for nearly $1.2 million in 1998, according to records kept by the Leon County Property Appraiser’s office.
