In a statement released Friday night, Crist announced that his media team will be headed by Josh Isay, who used to work for Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. Schumer is a member of the Senate’s Democratic leadership team and once headed the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
Isay also helped New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a Republican-turned-independent, and Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, a Democrat-turned-independent, win re-election.
Remember what I wrote last month — and the St. Petersburg Times’ Adam Smith discounted:
All sources have spoken to Saint Petersblog on the basis of anonymity because the negotiations are still on-going, but preliminary plans call for Bloomberg to offer not only his endorsement and financial support, but the direct assistance of his political team, which would be welcome news to the Crist campaign which, despite enthusiastic support from some of the Governor’s long-time supporters, is still working to build a credible statewide political operation.
Sure, the hiring of one staffer does not prove a prediction. In fact, the leaking of the story probably ruined any chance of Bloomberg actually endorsing Crist, but that discussion did take place.
