in Statewide/Top Headlines by

CareerSource Florida provided training and employment services to a record number of businesses for the second year in a row. In a statement, Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced nearly 125,000 businesses received employee services between July 1, 2014, and June 30, 2015.

That represents a 23 percent increase over the previous year. The agency also helped more than 445,000 Floridians find employment during that period.

“Because CareerSource Florida is connecting job creators with important employment and training services, Florida businesses are more prepared to compete in a global economy and create even more jobs for our families,” Scott said in a statement. “Organizations like CareerSource Florida are helping us meet our goal of providing every Floridian with the opportunity to get a great job and build a career.”

CareerSource Florida’s mission is to expand business engagement by educating employers about recruiting, hiring and training services available in the state. Businesses can be connected with grants, training assistance, recruiting and assisting in the sometimes onerous hiring process.

The network includes 24 workforce development boards and a customer relationship management program consisting of Florida businesses. The idea is to develop a consistent method to measure the effectiveness of employer outreach programs.

“The CareerSource Florida network’s Expanding Business Engagement initiative supports job growth, which helps more Floridians connect with great career opportunities to support themselves and their families,” said CareerSource Florida President Chris Hart IV. “Together, our network partners more than doubled the businesses served from 2013 to 2014. To have increased this number by an additional 23 percent this past year shows our strong commitment to this effort.”

CareerSource Florida includes businesses and government leaders as well as the Department of Economic Opportunity. The group consists of nearly 100 service centers where people looking for jobs can be connected with employers.
