Former Rep. Frank Farkas put (some) of his money where his mouth is. He was one of the 64 people who donated cash to Carolyn Fries campaign for St. Petersburg City Council District 4.
Farkas had earlier endorsed Fries for the Aug. 27 primary. The top two finishers move on to a citywide general election in November.
According to the official campaign financing report for the second quarter 2013, Farkas donated $100 of the total of $6667.36 Fries received from April 29 to June 30. Most of the donations were cash and loans from Fries to her campaign, with $400 of in-kind donations for video production and $300 in-kind for website design from her son Zach.
The largest single cash donor was Hess Fine Arts on Fourth Street North with $300.
Farkas recently won 815,515.72 playing the Florida Lottery’s “Lucky $200,000 A Year for Life.” He served four terms in the Florida House of Representatives.
Fries, 45, is a former Crescent Lake Neighborhood Association president, running against community activist Darden Rice and neurosurgeon Dr. David McKalip. She is seeking the seat vacated by term-limited council member Leslie Curran.
In the most recent St. Pete Polls survey of likely District 4 voters, Rice leads the race with 26 percent support, followed by McKalip at 17 percent. Fries come in last at 15 percent. Forty-three percent of voters remain undecided.
