Congratulations, Charlie

in Peter/Statewide/The Bay and the 'Burg by

First of all, congratulations to my dear friend Governor-elect Charlie Crist. His Senate campaign was the first that I ever worked on, so I owe much to the silver-haired, silver-tongued favorite son of St. Petersburg. I first met Charlie when he came to my high school to discuss the Youth in Government program I was involved in; not soon after he invited me and my friend Estella to be pages in the state Senate. From then after Charlie has been…

Susan Bedinghaus draws an opponent in County Judge race

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Looks like St. Pete lawyer Nat Kidder does not believe that women have an advantage in local judicial races (they’ve won 17 of the last 19). Last week, he jumped into the Group 17 race opposite heavyweight — yet still a nice person — Susan Bedinghaus.

Photo of the Day from Crescent Lake

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

As some of you know, I live next to one of Saint Petersburg’s most treasured natural resources — Crescent Lake Park. I actually have the pleasure of living in an apartment with a 5-window-panel view of the Lake, so I am constantly getting photographs of the beautiful scenes that occur here. Sometimes, a candidate wins all of the “Democratic” endorsements, like ones from…

Pleasantville and the St. Pete Pride Parade

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

It just so happened that I was reading this article about religious protesters marching through the crowd at Saturday’s St. Pete Pride festival at the same time I was watching the movie Pleasantville, a “kind of parable that encourages us to re-evaluate the good old days and take a fresh look at the new world we so easily dismiss as decadent.” I can’t help but draw a comparison between the ignorant trouble-makers that showed up to protest the Pride Festival…

Jack Day to run for Circuit Judge

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Prominent lawyer Jack Day is contacting supporters to let him know that he intends to run for the new Circuit Judge seat created by the Legislature. Day had originally said he would run for County Judge, but changed his mind probably because a woman has filed in both of the newly created County Judgeships; women have won 17 of the last 19 competitive judicial races.

Flash: Carrie Wadlinger is calling for support

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Just got off the phone with two Pinellas DEC members who tell me that Carrie Wadlinger is calling the membership to ask if they would support her if she decides to run again for chair. Wadlinger resigned last month as chair of the PDP, but has since had second-thoughts about her decision.
