Gov. Rick Scott Monday has ordered flags at half-staff “in honor and remembrance of the victims of the act of violence committed in Las Vegas during the late-night hours of Oct. 1.” The U.S. and state flags will be flown at half-staff “at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout the State of Florida,” according to a statement from his office.
Express lanes, a pedestrian bridge, and the possibility of future light rail are among the updated elements of a redesigned Howard Frankland Bridge, which is scheduled to begin construction in 2020. The changes, announced Monday by officials with the Florida Department of Transportation, are due, in part, to input received over the summer during the Tampa Bay Next Process.
One business day after Chad Chronister was officially sworn in as the new Hillsborough County Sheriff, he filed his paperwork to run for (re)-election in November of 2018. Chronister was tapped by Gov. Rick Scott to replace David Gee in August. He was the only applicant for the position.
The Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) on Monday moved forward on two public proposals to amend the state’s governing document: One to close the “write-in loophole,” and another to repeal a provision on high speed rail. The next chance for commissioners to directly sponsor public proposals will be on Oct. 17, during another meeting of the full Commission. Commissioners also adopted a recommendation from their Rules Committee to extend the public filing deadline to this Friday because of Hurricane Irma.
