Consider it a “hometown housewarming party,” as the Charlie Crist campaign celebrates opening its latest campaign field office, this time in his home turf of St. Petersburg.
Crist, the former Republican governor who switched to Democrat in December 2012, is the most likely candidate to face incumbent Republican Gov. Rick Scott in November.
Joined by his wife Carole, Crist invites friends, family and supporters on Saturday, June 14 to the grand opening party — promised to be a “good time” — beginning 11 a.m. at 2313 Central Avenue in St. Petersburg.
In similar grand openings events, such as the ones held April in Broward County and in Miami-Dade County in May, fans and well-wishers — as well as a few protesters — turned out by the hundreds.
Often Charlie Crist events take on a festive air, which many on the campaign hope translates into something more substantial (i.e. campaign cash).
Last month, Crist’s direct campaign account raised $410,787 in donations, while Scott took in $1.12 million through May 31. The incumbent is also outpacing Charlie Crist in on-hand cash by more than $1 million — $4.066 million versus $2.84 million for Crist.
