Through Friday, the last day to accept contributions for the primary election, Gerdes has raised $21,220 — almost double what his two opponents, Bob Kersteen ($6,461) and Josh Shulman ($6,049), have raised combined.
Raising that kind of money has allowed Gerdes to hire two campaign staffers, Johnny Bardine and Shari Hazlett, as well as produce professionally-designed direct mail.
Among Gerdes’ list of prominent contributors are lobbyist Ana Cruz’ firm, Floridian Partners, City Councilman Karl Nurse and State Representative Rick Kriseman. Kersteen has received checks from Hillsborough Commissioner Victor Crist and State Representative Jim Frishe.
The primary election is on Tuesday.
