Chris Latvala, son of iconic state lawmaker Jack Latvala, has filed to run as a Republican candidate for Florida House District 67.

“After prayerful consideration I have decided to run for the Florida House of Representatives, District 67. As a state legislator my focus will be on keeping Florida a desirable destination for businesses and job creators and to ensure that it continues to be a great place to raise a family,” Latvala said. “To accomplish this we must have a top-notch education system.”

Continued Latvala, “As the son of a public school teacher, I hear regularly about the problems impacting public education. Oftentimes it seems like those problems are created by politicians in Tallahassee. We need to recruit great teachers and then let them do their job, and that is to teach our children. We must also pay our teachers the compensation they deserve.”

Chris is a member of the 2014 class of Leadership Pinellas, a member of the Citizen Advisory Committee of the Pinellas MPO, a member of the Government Advocacy Committee for Ruth Eckerd Hall, and a member of the Community Relations committee for New Life Solutions.

“I have been fortunate to see firsthand what it takes to be a true statesman by two people in my life,” remarked Latvala. “The first one is my dad and the second is Rep. Ed Hooper. It is that statesmanship that is so lacking in Tallahassee and yet it is statesmanship that’s required to ensure Florida’s future.”

Chris Latvala, a native of Pinellas County, is a graduate from UCF. He served as a Legislative aide for Rep. Ed Hooper from 2006-2009 and lives in Clearwater.

Currently, he is the Vice President of GCI Printing Services, Inc. in Largo.
