First-time Republican candidate Chris Sprowls has unseated incumbent Democrat Carl Zimmermann in Pinellas County House District 65.

Sprowls received 52.4 percent of the vote to defeat Zimmermann, according to the state Division of Elections.

One factor in Sprowls victory was his extensive fundraising lead. The Tarpon Springs native raised nearly $306,400 and spent a total of $287,084 on his campaign.

Zimmerman raised $141,207, and spent $just under $115K.

District 65 covers much of north Pinellas County, Tarpon Springs, Dunedin, Palm Harbor and East Lake.
