Over the past several years, St. Petersburg has emerged as one of the arts capitals of the southeast. A dynamic collection of museums, galleries, theaters, and entrepreneurial creative industries has created a synergy in the city, as arts, culture and tourism have become one of St. Petersburg’s key economic drivers. In the summer issue of American Style magazine, St. Petersburg was ranked the number one arts destination of any city its size.
St. Petersburg is home to nearly 700 arts-related businesses that employ more than 7,000 people. These arts-centric businesses play an important role in building and sustaining economic vibrancy. They employ a creative workforce, spend money locally, generate government revenue, and are a cornerstone of tourism and economic development.
On Wednesday, June 2, leaders in St. Petersburg’s arts, cultural and tourism community will discuss ways to grow the city’s cultural sector, increase tourism and stimulate job creation. Representatives of arts, culture, tourism, and affiliated businesses are invited to participate in this job creation summit, to be held at the Progress Energy Center for the Arts’ Mahaffey Theater ballroom, 400 First St. S., from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
