Clearwater City Councilmember Jay Polglaze will be kicking-off his re-election campaign Tuesday night, Nov. 10.

The party, being held at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort on Clearwater Beach, goes from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

“I am humbled by the outpouring of support I received over the past four years,” wrote Polglaze in an e-mail to supporters, following his early Sept. announcement to run for Clearwater City Council. “I am asking you to join me again in my campaign for reelection.”

The 58-year-old, 35-year Clearwater resident currently holds City Council’s Seat 3. He also doubles as the city’s vice mayor, a post he took over from fellow council member — and Seat 2 holder — Doreen Hock-DiPolito in 2015.

It was in February of 2012, though, that Polglaze first joined Clearwater’s City Council, after having run unopposed for his seat.

His professional background includes 29 years as an employee of the U.S. Postal Service, as well as an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1979. He’s also served on Clearwater’s Downtown Development Board. And twice he’s been a member of the Clearwater Charter Review Committee.

Currently he volunteers as an executive board member for the American Cancer Society of Pinellas County, and as a member on the Citizens Advisory Council to the Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Polglaze’s host committee includes — amongst many others — Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, Tax Collector Diane Nelson and Pinellas County Commissioners Janet Long, Charlie Justice and John Morroni.

He finished his e-mail to supporters by expressing a want to “continue working hard to advance economic development and preserve the quality of life and character [the Clearwater] community enjoys.”

Election day for Clearwater City Council seats 1, 2 and 3 will be on March 15, 2016. Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos is the council’s current seat 1 holder.
