Clearwater Vice Mayor Jay Polglaze says he’ll seek re-election in 2016

The past four year weren’t enough for Clearwater City Councilmember Jay Polglaze. He says he wants to serve four more.

“I am humbled by the outpouring of support I received over the past four years,” wrote Polglaze in an e-mail addressed to dear friends. “I am asking you to join me again in my campaign for re-election.”

The 35-year Clearwater resident currently holds City Council’s Seat 3. He also doubles as the city’s vice mayor, a post he took over from fellow council member — and Seat 2 holder — Doreen Hock-DiPolito in 2015.

It was in February of 2012, though, that Polglaze first joined Clearwater’s City Council, after having run unopposed for his seat.

His professional background includes 29 years as an employee of the U.S. Postal Service, as well as an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1979. He’s also served on Clearwater’s Downtown Development Board. And twice he’s been a member of the Clearwater Charter Review Committee.

Currently he volunteers as an executive board member for the American Cancer Society of Pinellas County, and as a member on the Citizens Advisory Council to the Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Polglaze’s announcement to run for re-election in 2016 is coming just days before Clearwater City Council candidates can officially file to run for office, which comes on Sept. 17.

“The campaign will not officially begin until later this fall,” wrote Polglaze, “but your help will allow me to continue working hard to advance economic development and preserve the quality of life and character our community enjoys.”

Election day for Clearwater City Council seats 1, 2 and 3 will be on March 15, 2016. Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos is the current seat 1 holder.
