As the saying goes: if you first don’t succeed … try, try.
Attorney Jessica Ehrlich is trying again to replace 40-year congressional veteran U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young. Last year, the Democrat lost to Congress’ longest serving Republican, and now she is willing to give it another shot in 2014.
As both the incumbent and a longtime political insider, Young has a distinct advantage in fundraising. In the current campaign money reports, Young has a solid lead over Ehrlich, with the largest donations coming from the defense aerospace and electronics industries. Being the Chairman of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee certainly doesn’t hurt.
The numbers show Young collected $86,208 for the second quarter, bringing his cash-on-hand total to 242,815. Ehrlich’s report was not yet available.
In the 2012 race, Young raised just over $1 million, with 47 percent coming from PAC contributions; Ehrlich raised almost exactly half that amount — $518,000 — only 24 percent of that was from PACs.
