U.S.Rep. Connie Mack has scheduled a ?ajor announcement?tomorrow regarding the race for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by DemocratBill Nelson.

Mack? office sent out a media advisory at 1 p.m. today reading, ?.S. Representative Connie Mack (FL-14) will make a major announcement regarding the 2012 race for the United States Senate in Florida against liberal incumbent Senator Bill Nelson.?

Indications Mack would run against Nelson have been building for months and Friday? event has all the markings of an announcement of that candidacy.

It is to be held at 10 a.m. on the steps of the historic Lee County Courthouse in downtown Fort Myers, a frequent launching pad for Southwest Florida political campaigns, Brett Batten reports.

Mack spokesman David James stopped short of confirming Mack would announce a challenge to Nelson however. ?ike I said, wait until 10 a.m. I?e got to respect the time because obviously this is a major announcement for him.?

In recent months Mack, the son of a former U.S. senator, has raised his national profile by speaking to the American Conservative Union? CPAC convention in Washington, garnered an endorsement from a key ally of Jeb Bush, who has affirmed he will not seek the senate seat, and taken an aggressive tack toward attack Nelson for his liberal views.
