Charlie Crist to veto ‘inexcusable’ raid on road-building funds

Crist tells The Buzz he will veto a legislative maneuver to raid $160-million from the state road-building fund. Lawmakers tried to shield the raid from a veto by steering the money into public schools — believing Crist wouldn’t dare cut education spending. He says his staff found a way to “bifurcate” and “decouple” the two, meaning he’ll veto the raid on gas tax money, which could invite a legal challenge from lawmakers.

“The obvious shenanigans that were put in place there is, I think, clearly inexcusable,” Crist said. You want to have one policy one way, and another in a different direction, and you ought to separate them. So we will separate them.” Continue reading here.
