Talking to POLITICO for the D.C. media outlet’s story on her fundraising efforts, Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz — also a congresswoman from Florida — declined to rule out running for statewide office. But she wasn’t specific about the time frame or which position she might campaign for.
It’s not clear what Wasserman Schultz wants — she pointedly wouldn’t rule out running for leadership, governor or senator.
“So far, the people of the 23rd Congressional District still continue to want me to represent them, and I don’t have any immediate plans to run for statewide office, but I can’t tell you I would never run for statewide office,” she said.
The speculation — hopes? — among some Dems that Wasserman Schultz might take a shot of Gov. Rick Scott in next year’s gubernatorial election have pretty much disappeared. And while she leaned on the “i” word — intention — Wasserman Schultz indicated she plans to stay a the DNC through at least 2016, which would seem to rule out a run in Florida any time before then. Though it’s almost impossible to ignore that a certain U.S. senator / potential president contender’s seat could be up for grabs that year …
