Democrat Russ Patterson announced his intention to run for the non-partisan countywide Hillsborough School Board District 6 seat.

Patterson, 61, a retired Air Force officer and Tampa resident, is entering the School Board race for a four-year term paying $41,000 annually. Of the three board members whose seats to be voted on next year, none will seek re-election.

Patterson is currently a Special Education teacher at King High School.

In 2010, Patterson ran for State Representative of District 60 which covers Lutz, Lake Magdalene and Pebble Creek. He lost that race by 13 points to Republican Shawn Harrison.

On Thursday, July 11, Patterson hosts a campaign kickoff event at Mangroves Restaurant, at 208 S. Howard Avenue. The fundraiser will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Patterson’s mother Irene is expected to arrive in Tampa from Arlington, Texas to attend the event.
