House Democratic Leader Perry Thurston is one of six elected officials investigated by WLPG TV/Local 10.com who “occasionally” live outside their districts in violation of the Florida Constitution.
Pinellas County Republican Sen. Jack Latvala, chair of the Senate ethics committee, as well as Gov. Rick Scott is working to tighten up state rules, but that hasn’t stopped Thurston and others from living outside their districts.
News reporters found many of those legislators staying at the homes outside their districts, instead of the places they use to determine residence.
Even though she keeps a home with her family outside Broward County District 95, State Rep. Hazelle Rogers insists she lives in a condominium inside the district.
“”My husband follows me whenever he feels like it,” Rogers told reporters.
However, on noon Labor Day, WLPG found the Lauderdale Lakes Democrat at her home, and not at her condominium.
Undercover video shows Sen. Maria Sachs staying outside her District 34 at her $1.5 million estate in Boca Raton. At the time, Sachs claimed she lived in a condominium owned by a campaign aide in Fort Lauderdale. Now she is saying she lives in a Delray Beach condominium.
Rep. Jared Moskowitz states that he lives in an apartment in Coral Springs while his wife and child reside in a townhome at Parkland Golf and Country Club. Moskowitz now says he rents a Heron Bay home for his family.
