Dept. of Health overhaul set for approval in House on Friday

With some lawmakers long saying the agency needs to be more focused, the House could approve a plan Friday that would lead to reorganizing the Florida Department of Health. The bill (HB 1263) calls for a wide range of changes, including the closure of A.G. Holley state tuberculosis hospital in Palm Beach County. Some public-health advocates say they are concerned that the bill would reduce the agency’s emphasis on disease-prevention programs. A similar bill (SB 1824) is pending in the Senate Budget Committee.
