U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart added $112,963 to his campaign account between April 1 and June 30, giving him $341,817 cash on hand as he prepares for a re-election campaign next year in House District 25, according to totals on the Federal Election Commission website via the News Service of Florida. Congressional candidates faced a Monday deadline for filing second-quarter reports.
Meanwhile, another South Florida incumbent, Democratic Congressman Alcee Hastings, reported raising $80,607 during the quarter and $254,890 cash on hand, according to the FEC. Hastings is seeking re-election in House District 20. Diaz-Balart and Hastings easily were elected in 2012.
