The Dave Matthews Band certainly did not disappoint during their tour opener at Madison Square Garden on April 14. Dave joked that in a conversation with The Roots, the opening band, they remarked “Who opens a tour at Madison Square Garden?” DMB showed they do, and they can.

DMB played three songs from the forthcoming Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King – Funny The Way It Is, Why I Am, and Spaceman. The songs received an overall positive reaction from the crowd, especially Why I Am, which Dave remarked was Roi’s favorite during the 08 session. DMB also broke out some old favorites, including Raven, Pig, and a full (non-truncated) Recently, and had Gregg Allman guest on his song Melissa – sung as a duet with Dave.
