Doreen DiPolito, a business executive and longtime advocate of women in city government, will be seeking a second term on the Clearwater City Council.

DiPolito, who has lived in Clearwater since 1972, won Seat 2 on the Council in February 2012 after running unopposed to replace term-limited John Doran.

“I am so honored to have the support of the citizens and the community behind me,” DiPolito said in an announcement Friday. “It has been a privilege to support the community for the past four years, and I hope to do so for four more.”

In 2014, DiPolito served a year as Clearwater’s vice mayor, a rotating appointment for each City Council member. The current vice mayor, Jay Polglaze, will also be running for Clearwater City Council Seat 3.

DiPolito is owner and president of the family-owned D-Mar General Contracting and Development, a position she has held since 2001. D-Mar General specializes in commercial development, construction management, large-scale interior build-outs and site development. She has been a Florida State Certified General Contractor since 2006 and graduated with an Associate of Arts in Engineering from St. Petersburg College. DiPolito is also a 2007 Leadership Pinellas alumni.

As the only female member of the Clearwater City Council, DiPolito is a staunch supporter of women in government, working to help more women run for elected office. She serves in the Women on the Way Program, Women’s Business Enterprise National (WBENC) Council, and is a member of the National Association of Professional & Executive Women (NAPW). DiPolito is a founding member of AchieveHERs, established by the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce to provide support and networking opportunities to women in business.

In addition to serving on City Council, DiPolito uses her construction experience as part of the Habitat for Humanity Hammer & Heels project, which recently built a new home for a local woman and her young child. DiPolito is also Rotarian of the Rotary Club of Clearwater.

The election for Clearwater City Council Seats 1, 2 and 3 is March 15, 2016.
