Saint Petersburg Police Officers are searching Thursday for at least 20 individuals from the city’s downtown area on a variety of illegal drug charges, according to a press release.
Officers began looking for these people around 10:30 Thursday morning. Officers are targeting the city’s downtown area, including Williams Park, today, arresting individuals who face a variety of charges including the sale and possession of marijuana, methadone, morphine, hydromorphone, dilaudid, crack cocaine, powdered cocaine and heroin, according to police.
In January 2013 the St. Petersburg Police Department’s Vice and Narcotics Unit began investigating a number of complaints regarding illegal drug sales and drug use in the downtown area. Many of the complaints specified problems in Williams Park.
Since that time, undercover detectives with the department’s Vice and Narcotics Unit have developed cases on at least 20 individuals, according to police spokesperson Mike Puetz.
Puetz hopes to have a complete list of the names and charges of individuals arrested later today.
