It’s a rainy Saturday night and the Winter White Wife is with the mother-in-law at Pier One, so, of course, I am scouring other people’s Facebook pages for interesting news.
I found one interesting tidbit on the Facebook page of Dwight Dudley, prospective Democratic candidate for the District 68 seat in the Florida House (currently held by Rep. Jeff Brandes).
Dudley writes:
Dear friends, family and any interested citizens.
Could you please help me? To avoid paying close to a couple thousand dollars in filing fees to run for the Florida House of Representatives I’m trying to qualify by petition. I’ve only got until noon May 7, to gather 518 signatures of ANY REGISTERED FLORIDA VOTER. Your signing a petition is not an endorsement of my candidacy and any registered voter from Florida may sign a petition REGARDLESS OF PARTY AFFILIATION.
I promise to listen to you.
ONLY WITH YOUR HELP CAN WE MAKE OUR STATE OF FLORIDA, BETTER
Please call,write,yell. Facebook,email,[email protected],phone 727-580-0111 thank you
That certainly reads like Dudley is running. Heck, that even sounds like he’s already filed to run, right? Because everyone knows a candidate can’t collect petitions without, you know, having filed to run.
Well, I called Dwight Dudley and asked him what he was up to. He says his candidacy is still in the “exploratory” stage right now, although he did say he thought “we can do better for the community and the state.”
Sounds like a candidate, right?
Hey, if collects petitions like a duck and gives quotes like a duck, then it’s a duck, right?
Except, if you’re a candidate, be sure to get your ducks in a row first.
