East Tampa civic and business leaders say they are looking to the city’s next mayor to tackle those and other problems. With early voting starting on Saturday and fewer than two weeks until the March 1 election, no clear frontrunner has emerged among voters in the city’s black neighborhoods.
“The mayor’s race is wide open,” said Diane Hart, an East Tampa activist and head of the Hillsborough County Democratic Black Caucus. “Many voters are still undecided.”
