I want to thank all of you who volunteered, donated and voted in support of my effort to become the next Mayor of Tampa. I believe we had the advantage in vision, ideas and experience, but the disadvantage in time and money.
Where we were able to go door-to-door in targeted precincts, we averaged close to 26% of the vote. We relied upon cable TV and direct mail pieces to carry our message to those areas we could not personally visit. But we could not compete from a resource perspective against the other fine mayoral candidates in this race. In the end, we won 19.4% of the city turnout, a percentage higher than expected by most political pundits, but obviously falling short of our hopes and expectations. I am proud that we engaged in a civil and respectful campaign and appreciate that all other candidates did likewise.
In the course of the last few months, I put forth a number of good ideas and I believe in my heart that many of these ideas will come to fruition in the next administration. I urge you to use your voice to make it happen.
My mantra remains the same
