As controversy grows over the national Common Core academic standards, the Florida Department of Education will hold three public hearings to address state guidelines for math and language-arts.

The FDOE hearings come from an executive order issued last month by Gov. Rick Scott calling for the state to back away from Common Core, the series of tests developed by a group of states to assess student learning.

The October hearings will be in Tallahassee, Hillsborough and Broward Counties.

  • Tues. Oct. 15: Hillsborough Community College — Dale Mabry Campus, 4001 West Tampa Bay Blvd., Tampa. The hearings begin 5 p.m.in the Student Services Building, Room 111
  • Wed., Oct. 16: Broward College — Davie Campus, 3501 SW Davie Rd., Davie Bailey. Hearings begin 5 p.m. in the Concert Hall, Building 4
  • Thurs., Oct. 17: Tallahassee Community College — Ghazvini Center for Healthcare Education Auditorium, 1528 Surgeons Dr., Tallahassee. Hearings begin 5 p.m.
