St. Pete City Council candidate Ed Montanari is thanking supporters now that he’s officially gotten one week under his campaign belt.
“I am very thankful for all your well wishes and notes of support,” Montanari wrote in an email blast to supporters.
Montanari announced last week he’d be seeking current council member Bill Dudley’s seat later this year. Dudley defeated Montanari in 2007 by just 300 votes.
Dudley is now one of Montanari’s impressive list of supporters. Dudley serves on Montanari’s host committee along with prominent St. Pete figures like former Mayors Rick Baker and Bill Foster and council member Amy Foster.
Montanari has remained engaged in city politics since that defeat, serving on high-profile committees seeking solutions to problems like the St. Pete Pier and the Tampa Bay Rays stadium debacle.
He’s also served on the Albert Whitted Airport Advisory Council.
Montanari himself is an airline pilot and served in the Air Force as a pilot and instructor from 1981 until 1989.
Montanari is asking supporters to make donations to his campaign via his website. He’s also directing supporters to a growing list of media coverage surrounding his campaign including three stories from SaintPetersblog.
So far, no one has jumped in the race to challenge Montanari.
The qualifying period for that race runs from June 9-22.
Here is Montanari’s full email:
