Email Insights: Gun rights make appearance in HD 77 primary

in Uncategorized by

Gun rights have always been a prized Republican issue, now they are making an appearance in Dane Eagle’s re-election effort.

State Rep. Eagle is the subject of the latest email blast for the House District 77 race, in the form of an urgently worded National Rifle Association “NRA Alert.”

It warns voters about a supposedly “pro-gun” organization (from outside Florida, no less)  that is falsely attacking Eagle for his voting record on Second Amendment rights.

The rumor going around is is that the Lee County Republican voted to restrict Second Amendment rights without due process. The organization also asserts Eagle failed to fill out the group’s candidate questionnaire

The NRA says both claims about Eagle are “PATENTLY FALSE.”

“Dane Eagle is a proven friend of the Second Amendment and will oppose any attempt to restrict our rights,” the email continues. “This primary election is your chance to keep a proven Second Amendment Leader!”

The email points out that the candidate the outside group actually supports has “no voting record” on Second Amendment issues, possibly because he has not yet held elected office.

In addition, Eagle was awarded both an A+ rating and the endorsement of the NRA-PVF.

The email also takes the opportunity to call for all Republicans to “use their vote to protect your freedom,” and provides a link to the NRA website to verify Eagle’s record on “firearms freedom.”
