Email Insights: #TeamCharlie St. Pete Pride march is right side of history

Charlie Crist’s makeover into the uber-Democrat is practically complete, as a new email blast proclaims #TeamCharlie participation in Florida’s largest LGBT Pride event — the 2014 St. Pete Pride Street Festival.

The former Republican governor, running for his old job as a Democrat, will take his grassroots support to the streets of St. Petersburg (Crist’s home base) to celebrate with 100,000 of his closest friends and associates as part of the weekend of events, capped by marching in the parade on Saturday.

Being that it is the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall Raid that launched the modern LGBT movement, Crist will also be a featured speaker Thursday evening at the 2014 Museum of Fine Arts Stonewall Reception, along with St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman. The event is the launching point for a weekend of festivities.

On Sunday, #TeamCharlie will be canvassing the crowd, reminding partiers of which candidate has the endorsement of both Equality Florida and the Human Rights Campaign.

“If you believe that love is love,” the email says, “that all Floridians should be equal in the eyes of the law, and that it’s time to bring change to Florida.”

Say what you will about Crist’s controversial transformation from GOP to Democrat — his sentiments on Pride weekend puts the once (and perhaps future) governor on the right side of history.
