Equality Florida announces “Get Engaged” program for marriage rights

As first reported In the Tampa Bay Times “The Buzz,” LGBT rights group Equality Florida announced a campaign to deliver marriage equality to all Floridians.

“Get Engaged” is a statewide campaign to ensure the right to marry is made available for all state residents. Although education will play a key role in the movement, the final strategy hinges on two U.S. Supreme Court rulings essential to the LGBT community—on the constitutionality of the federal Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8.

The SCOTUS should announce the two rulings by the end of June.

“As the entire country awaits the Supreme Court’s rulings, it is time for all who believe in equality and  fairness to take a clear stand on the right side of history,” said Equality Florida Director Nadine Smith in a conference call with both supporters and reporters.
