Craig Fugate, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will be the keynote speaker at the 2015 State of the Florida Insurance Market Summit.
Sponsored by insurance regulatory law firm Colodny Fass, global reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter, and the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI), the three-day Summit will be January 14-16, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Florida’s beachfront Amelia Island.
The annual event draws 700 top insurance industry executives, and a host of state insurance commissioners, regulators and legislators. Fugateโs speech is scheduled for Thursday, January 15.
“More often than not, FEMA is at the center of major pressing insurance and emergency management issues like National Flood Insurance Program reform, Ebola response and the federal government’s push toward not only mitigation, but resiliency in national disaster response and rebuilding efforts,” said Colodny Fass managing partner Mike Colodny.
Fugate, a Gainesville native, has served as FEMA Administrator since 2009, after working as Director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management and Florida State Coordinating Officer. He oversaw the management of $4.5 billion in federal disaster assistance for 11 presidentially declared disasters.
“The insurance industry’s annual turnout at our Summit is a testament to its recognition that, how Florida goes, usually so goes the world,” Colodny added.
