White House hopeful Mitt Romney’s lead over rival Newt Gingrich has stretched up to 15 percentage points in Florida, with just a day left before the state’s Republican primary, according to results of a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Monday.
Romney’s support edged up to 43 percent in the online tracking poll of likely voters in Florida’s primary, versus 28 percent for Gingrich. Romney was 12 points ahead on Sunday.
Two other contenders, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul, were well behind the two leaders. Santorum’s support was at 12 percent, down from 16 percent in Sunday’s results. Paul was backed by 5 percent of survey respondents, down from 6 percent on Sunday.
