Now that the qualification deadlines for St. Petersburg mayoral elections have passed, the first campaign debates will be Thursday, notes Mark Puente of the Tampa Bay Times.

Mayor Bill Foster will face Kathleen Ford and Rick Kriseman; both candidates are ahead of the mayor in current polling. The scheduled topics will include Midtown development, diversity in the police department and the controversial police pursuit policy.

The debate will be at the Suncoast Hospice, 3050 First Ave. S, and beginning at 7:30 p.m.  Sponsors are The Weekly Challenger, the St. Petersburg NAACP and Bay Tech Label, the company owned by council chair Karl Nurse. Attorney Michelle Ligon will be the moderator.
