Fla Congressional races: Karen Harrington to take on DWS, Joe Garcia wins Dem primary to face David Rivera

Results in two Florida congressional races are now finalized, setting the stage for the general election in November.

Republican candidate Karen Harrington will take at run at knocking off Democratic incumbent Debbie Wasserman Schultz after a decisive win Tuesday in the GOP primary for Congressional District 23. Harrington beat her five GOP opponents by capturing 48.4 percent of the vote, more than double her closest rival, Joe Kaufman. Wasserman Schultz, first elected in 2004, is now the chair of the Democratic National Committee, and a target of the GOP.

Elsewhere, Democratic late-comer Joe Garcia will attempt to take down freshman Republican incumbent David Rivera in Congressional District 26, in Miami-Dade County. Garcia defeated Gloria Romero Roses by a 53-31 percent margin in Tuesday’s Democratic primary that included two other candidates. Garcia came into the race late as the Democratic Party attempts to defeat Rivera, who has a target on his back after being plagued by ethics controversy during his brief congressional tenure.
