It’s no surprise that Florida and Florida State are closely matched when it comes to the state’s college sports loyalties with the Gators edging the Seminoles 24/22, according to a new survey from Public Policy Polling. Miami is third at 12%, followed by Central Florida with 9%, and South Florida, Florida Atlantic, and Florida International all registering at 2%.
That’s a pretty big drop for USF from 2011 when PPP found them at 8% statewide support, while everyone else is within a couple points of where they were then.
All of the state’s major football coaches poll well with their school fan bases. Noles coach Jimbo Fisher has the best net approval with his fan base at 56/1, and Miami’s Al Golden gets a 58/13 spread. Gators coach Will Muschamp is less popular at 46/14, but that’s still up a good deal from 24/28 the first time PPP polled on him towards the end of his first season. He’s won some people over since then.
